GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY PAGE 6

Me, my brother, and my friend Yoken are doing this webcomic called American Otaku so I was looking for some inspiration at the New York Comic Con this year. I bought this original artwork by Steve Montano which basically shows how to draw comics in the oldschool way. It’s amazing how much time and effort is put into just one page. If you look at each dialogue balloon, it’s hand cut and the letters are all written by hand!!! This page had a tracing paper on top so the artist could add more detail without getting his hand smudged on the ink. The texture for space is all hand done of course. Thanks to modern technology, everything is so much easier and faster nowadays. However, it’s always nice to see how real authentic art was made back in the days.

Why is yawning contagious? I was on Skype the other day talking to my girlfriend, and we were still able to give each other the yawns. Weird.

Here are a couple of links that talks about the contagious nature of yawning.

New drawing for ToMato. This time I emphasized on the (1) fashion, (2) wrinkles on the clothing, and (3) different posture. Still in the works. Still not too happy with the main character’s hairstyles. Long way to go…

Trapped

Another fart joke… but this time it was inspired by a true event. Couple days ago I got into an elevator occupying just me and one other person. I smelt fart. It wasn’t me so obviously it was the other person. He got off soon afterwards. However, bunch of people got on the next floor and they all gave me a nasty look. “It wasn’t me!” Shaggy.

Here are two new conceptual sketches for ToMato.

In these two sketches I tried to focus on drawing at different angles. In sketch #24 I tried to draw as seen from below (the laughing dude), and in sketch #25 I did the opposite, an aerial view (the girl in the front). I think it turned out alright for them being my first try.

Character design is also still in work, but it’s getting closer to what I am imagining them to be.

More to come.
